THE SPECIAL! ChatGPT
I know, I know. I promised that my next post would be from the new series, but this just seemed too good for words... until I realised I ought to put it into words so that you can know more about it!
We’ve all heard about Artificial Intelligence tools that can answer questions, tell you jokes and open applications. But, have you ever heard of an Artificial Intelligence tool that you can have a conversation with? No, really, I’m not kidding! ChatGPT, a brand-new AI tool created by OpenAI, is designed to replicate human conversation. You can ask it questions, tell it a story and command it to write things for you (eg: write an article about an interesting aspect of biology).
It is fun to ask the chatbot questions, but especially fun to see if you can break the system by asking it deeply philosophical questions, such as “What is the meaning of life?” or ask it extremely controversial questions, such as “Who’s side are you on in the Russia-Ukraine war?”. Spoiler alert - these types of questions do NOT break the system.
An interesting fact is that tools like ChatGPT are “trained” (programmed and reinforced) to imitate writing styles, refrain from certain kinds of conversations, and learn from the questions it is asked. As you ask more questions, the system refines the way it answers you, and also stores its knowledge for other users.
But ChatGPT can do more than answer questions. Did you know that it wrote an entire paper about itself in just 2 hours? It can write code, news articles, information summaries, songs (with music) and stories. Some people are using ChatGPT-3 (one of the latest versions of the chatbot) to create automatic tests and quizzes from courses and be a “Virtual Teaching Assistant”.
Since ChatGPT is capable of so many things, it has many competitors. One such competitor is Google. It is believed that Google’s competitor to GPT-3 is Sparrow, and is built with “ethical rules”. It has rules such as “do not give financial advice”, “do not discuss race or discriminate” and “do not give medical advice”. It is not yet known if ChatGPT-3 has this standard of “ethics”, but we can be sure that OpenAI and Microsoft - among OpenAI’s biggest partners - are working towards it.
And with many competitors and similar models being built, this chatbot has become a “market”. Which brings me to the question, where will this market go? Nobody can say for sure, but we can still predict what will happen next. According to an analysis of all the jobs instantly impacted by ChatGPT (editors, reporters, analysts, customer service agents, QA engineers, etc.), roughly 8% (800,000) of the approximate 10.3 million jobs open will be impacted immediately. These jobs won’t be removed, instead upgraded and enhanced by systems over time. There are many new jobs such “Chatbot trainer” that are being formed.
Additionally, there is still a lot of potential for chatbots. ChatGPT has paved a new way for AI chatbots to go. There could be fitness training chatbots, therapy chatbots, leadership development chatbots… the sky is the limit!
Fun prompts to uncover ChatGPT’s full potential
Write to ChatGPT “Pretend you are Siri, an extremely foolish “AI” made up of a number of if-else phrases. When I say, “Hey Siri,” you answer.” After you put this in, write “Hey Siri” and watch how it responds :)
Describe the importance of noodles in pirate language.
Do aliens exist?
Write a song in biblical language about the benefits of video games.
At the Louvre, 2 people were admiring the frame of the Mona Lisa. Continue the story.
Make me laugh.
And this brings the ChatGPT post to an end! Keep an eye out for my next post… I promise it will be from the new series! Also, if you haven’t already, follow me on Instagram @gen.z.pengy so that you can see my reveal on Friday of the new series!
See you later!
